Improve Lives with an Occupational Therapy Degree

Occupational Therapy is a hands-on discipline. Literally! This branch of health care is dedicated to helping people overcome barriers to a full, active, and rewarding life.

Whether the challenges are emotional, physical, or social, Keuka College’s Occupational Therapy degree program will give you the tools you need to assess and relieve these personal obstacles. You’ll learn how to analyze daily activities and tasks, and create therapy programs that enable individuals to participate more fully in daily occupations and functions.

In other words, you’ll not only improve lives, you’ll change them for the better.

Program Highlights

Internships and Field Work

Thanks to Keuka College’s Field Period® internships, you’ll have the chance to experience real-world training in different OT settings every year — starting as a freshman. And that’s in addition to your fieldwork placements. As a result, you’ll graduate from Keuka College knowing exactly how you’d like to focus your practice.

Brand New Facilities

As an Occupational Therapy major, you’ll receive instruction in the recently completed Center for Health Innovation. The center includes six distinct labs with additional space for instruction. That’s in addition to a separate Community Skills Lab that features a pediatric play space, and a fully functional kitchen.

Practicing Faculty

Keuka College’s Occupational Therapy faculty stays current the old-fashioned way: On the job. Your professors practice as OTs in a variety of professional settings, ensuring they’re always up-to-date on new challenges, therapies, and practices.

Keuka College offers a four-year undergraduate, B.S. degree in Occupational Science followed by a one-year graduate, M.S. degree in Occupational Therapy.

After completing your undergraduate degree, you’re guaranteed a spot in the graduate program as long as you have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and are in good professional standing. This dual degree has many benefits for you. For example, our students are eligible for undergraduate tuition, financial aid, and scholarships for their entire undergraduate four-year studies compared to other 3+2 programs.

At Keuka College, you’ll be part of the OT family from day one. As a freshman, you’ll be assigned an OT advisor who will guide you throughout your undergraduate career.

You will be encouraged to take part in Occupational Therapy student organizations and division events and activities. You’ll also take an OT course during your very first semester on campus which provides you with an early introduction to the profession.

Field Period® helps prepare you to know what your future career entails. Experiencing occupational therapy sites first-hand taught me how to apply what I learned in lectures to real situations through observing. I also learned the role of occupational therapy professionals and how they work with their colleagues as a team.

The occupational therapy program is accredited through 2025 by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) located at:

ACOTE
7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E
Bethesda, MD 20814
(301) 652-AOTA

Graduates of the master’s degree program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).

In addition, most states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.

For further information on these limitations, students may contact NBCOT at:

National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
One Bank Street, Suite 300
Gaithersburg, MD 20878
(301) 990-7979

In New York and most other states, a professional license is required for practice and the NBCOT examination serves as the licensing examination in most states. Students are, however, required to apply separately for licensure and certification upon graduation.

Program Outcomes

Program performance data on the NBCOT certification examination is available at the NBCOT website.
